Terms of Service

The agreement between you and Rakama. We have kept it as short and as readable as a binding document can reasonably be.

Effective 8 August 2026Last updated 13 August 2026

The short version

Rakama is a tool for recording and understanding your own money. It is not a bank, and nothing in it is financial advice. Your data belongs to you and you can take it or delete it whenever you like. Use the service honestly, don't attack it, and don't rely on it as your only copy of important records.

This agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Rana Aazan Mujahid, trading as Rakama ("Rakama", "we", "us") covering your use of the Rakama website, web application, Android app and iOS app (together, the "Service").

By creating an account or using the Service, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the Service. Our Privacy Policy forms part of this agreement.

You must be at least 13 years old to use Rakama, and old enough in your country to enter into a binding agreement. If you are using Rakama on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for it.

What Rakama is — and is not

Rakama helps you record transactions, set budgets, track savings goals, split bills and review reports about money you tell it about. It is a record-keeping and analysis tool.

Rakama is not:

  • a bank, a payment service, or a money transmitter;
  • connected to your bank accounts — it holds no live banking connection and moves no money;
  • an accounting system of record for tax or statutory reporting;
  • a substitute for professional financial, tax or legal advice.

Every figure Rakama shows is derived from data you entered or imported. If that data is incomplete or wrong, the budgets, reports and health scores built on it will be too. You remain responsible for the accuracy of your own records.

Nothing here is financial advice

Rakama shows patterns, totals, projections and a financial health score. These are automated calculations from your own numbers, not recommendations. We are not licensed financial advisers, and nothing produced by the Service should be treated as personalised advice about what to do with your money.

Decisions you make after looking at Rakama are your own. Please consult a qualified professional before making a significant financial decision.

Your account

  • Give accurate registration details and keep your email address current — it is how we reach you about security.
  • Keep your password confidential. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • Tell us promptly at help@rakama.app if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else.
  • One person, one account. Do not share a login or transfer your account to someone else.

Your data stays yours

You keep all rights to the financial data you put into Rakama. We claim no ownership of it. We do not sell it, mine it for advertising, or use it to train AI models. You grant us only the narrow permission needed to run the Service for you — to store your data, process it to produce your reports, back it up, and transmit it between your devices.

You can export your data at any time and delete it at any time, as described in the Privacy Policy. That right does not depend on being on a paid plan, and never will.

Keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose. Rakama is not a document archive, and the account-deletion feature is deliberately irreversible.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use Rakama for anything unlawful, including money laundering, fraud, or concealing the proceeds of crime;
  • attempt to access another user's data, or probe, scan or test the security of the Service without our written permission;
  • disrupt the Service — including automated request floods, or deliberately circumventing rate limits;
  • scrape, resell, or redistribute the Service or its content;
  • reverse-engineer the Service except where the law expressly permits it;
  • upload malware, or content that infringes someone else's rights;
  • enter another person's personal data beyond what is genuinely needed for a bill split.

Security researchers are welcome. If you find a vulnerability, please report it to help@rakama.app before disclosing it, and we will not pursue you for good-faith research that respects other users' privacy and does not degrade the Service.

Plans, billing and refunds

Rakama currently offers a free plan. Paid plans are planned but not yet available, and no payment method is collected today. The terms in this section describe how paid plans will operate when they launch, so that nothing about billing arrives as a surprise.

What paid plans will and will not change

  • Your existing data is never held hostage. If a paid plan launches, or if you cancel one, you keep full read access to everything you have already recorded, and full export rights. We will not lock you out of your own history to force an upgrade.
  • Existing free accounts keep a free tier. The free plan may change in shape, but the Service will not become paid-only without notice and an export period.
  • Paid plans will unlock additional features, not remove features you already rely on without at least 30 days' notice.

How billing will work

  • Prices will be shown before you subscribe, inclusive of any tax we are required to charge.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period until cancelled.
  • You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period, and you keep access until then.
  • Purchases made through Google Play are billed by Google under its terms, and refunds for those purchases follow its policies, not ours.
  • We will give at least 30 days' notice by email before any price increase affecting you.

Refunds

Where we bill you directly, you may request a full refund within 14 days of a first subscription payment. Beyond that, refunds are at our discretion, and we will be reasonable — particularly if the Service was unavailable or did not work as described.

Availability and changes to the Service

We work to keep Rakama available, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. We may need to suspend it for maintenance, and we may change, add or remove features as the product develops.

If we remove a feature you depend on, or discontinue the Service entirely, we will give you reasonable notice — at least 30 days — and a way to export your data before it stops.

Ending the agreement

You can stop using Rakama and delete your account at any time from the app's settings. Deletion is immediate and permanent.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these terms, if we are required to by law, or if your use puts the Service or other users at risk. Except where it would be unlawful or unsafe to do so, we will tell you why, and give you an opportunity to export your data first.

Our intellectual property

The Rakama name, logo, software, design, and the written content on this site — including the articles on our blog — belong to us and are protected by copyright and trade mark law. You may read and share our articles with attribution and a link. You may not copy the software, or use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you.

If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may act on them freely and without obligation to you. This does not give us any right to your financial data, which remains yours under Your data stays yours.

Warranties

We provide the Service with reasonable care and skill. Beyond that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, that calculations will suit your particular circumstances, or that it will meet any regulatory requirement applicable to you.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any right you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded under the law of your country.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, or data, arising out of your use of the Service.

Our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or USD 100.

We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and the courts of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute — except that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you may also bring proceedings in your own country, and you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws that apply to you there.

Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us at help@rakama.app. Most problems are faster to fix than to litigate.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top reflects the current version. For material changes — anything affecting your rights, your data, or what you pay — we will give at least 30 days' notice by email or in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Rakama after that means you accept the new terms; if you do not, you can export your data and close your account.
